Rationale

Doritos should have its packages revamped for the following reasons:
  • Doritos don't fill all the way up to the top of the bag
  • The bag does not fit the shape of the chip itself
    • The bag isn't rigid
Our idea is (inspired by Pringles):
  • We chose this package because it fits the Doritos shape.
  • 4 Doritos are arranged into a bigger triangle, and then the bigger triangles are stacked up to fit into a rigid, triangular prism.
  • Boxes are made of cardboad coated with aluminum
  • Boxes fit together, therefore shipping is more efficient
  • Solid, triangular prism container (the shape of the 4 chips)
  • Product will be able to fit perfectly in the container
    • Each layer fits 4 chips arranged in a triangle
    • There's room for 100 layers
    • Therefore, fits 400 chips

Amount

New package would fit 400 chips or 134.375 cubic inches

Height (of triangle) = 4.3 in
Base (of triangle) = 5 in
Height (of prism) = 12.5 in

.5x4.3x5x12.5

Space for Labeling

209 square inches

Triangle = 5x5x5 in (equilateral)
Height (of triangle) = 4.3; 5 squared - 2.5 squared = 18.75 squared or 4.3
Height (of prism) = 12.5 in
LA = 15x12.5 = 187.5 square inches
SA = 187.5+2(.5x5x4.3) = 209 square inches

Making the package wouldn't be difficult because it's really just like the Pringles package for the most part, but putting the Doritos into the package in the intricate way intended would be difficult
